No, I'm not dead yet.

Well,

Its been the good part of a year since I've been on this Blog. A fact that I'm not proud of, but can't deny.

A lot has happened since I last posted in February. For one; I married my girl friend of seven years, and I couldn't be happier in my life than I am now. Secondly, I was busy working my ass off to keep my head above water in this economy - wasting my time and energy slaving for the man in the most humiliating way possible. Retail. I know I'm not the only person who's had to pay my dues, so I'll stop the whining there.

Suffice it to say; though I was tired I still managed to make a good amount of art. This past November I went back for the fourth year running to Illuxcon. MY well-spring of art and spiritual being. This was also the second year in which I had a table to display my art. I hope to continue going to this yearly Con for as long as I have a heart that beats in my chest. The camaraderie, friendships and mentors I've met and made make me hopeful for my future in the Art world.

Talking about a future, here it is. Me posting this, is a confirmation that you all can expect more art from me on here. I should have something up shortly.

Ravage Quick Sketch

Been very busy with work, not art. I wish it were otherwise, but at the moment my art doesn't keep food on the table and a roof over my head; though at some point in my bleak life I hope it will.

This quick sketch was done on Strathmore Artagain paper with Derwent Water-soluble pencils. I prefer water pencils to just the regular stock of colored pencil. They aren't as waxy, which allows for a little more pliability; almost like a conte crayon.

Enjoy. Hopefully I'll be able to scan some more of the art I've been doing since the 1st of this month, and the painting on the post prior to this is nearing an end.

Progress

As stated in my last post, this WILL be finished by months end.

Now... time for some sleep.

Lovecraftian Mood

These pieces are all done on Encaustic board. we recently started to sell them at the Art supply store I work at, and as I do with every new item that comes in, I try it out.

I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I do, but the encaustic ground that they have on the board accepts literally every medium I threw at it. I especially liked finding that the surface was smooth enough to take Rapidiographs (tech. pens) with ease.

So here are a couple samples of what I've been doing on such boards.

Update

Hello again my minions. That's if anyone is still watching this Blog. I have been a little lazy and busy neglecting to post for about a month now, but that doesn't mean I haven't been doing little bits here and there. This up date is on a drawing/painting i posted on back in November I think. It's still a work-in-progress, but I'm hoping to have it squared away by the end of this month; or at least that's what I'm shooting for.

Illuxcon IV

More work is on the way. I just needed to post this though.

Illuxcon this year has been raised in price. both for weekend pass and exhibition table... Also, one of the Artists I look up to, and has helped to mentor me seems like he won't be there.

Difficult times...

The Path of Nevermore

Here's a very quick update on a sketch-painting I started earlier this week, and added to today. The sketch to the right of the above painting was only loosely used as referance. I was originally going to paint my pen sketch, but it evolved - like so many things do - when painting or drawing... I'm still working out what I actually want this painting to become, but so far I'm happy with it's unnerving gaze.

Death From Above

Quick sketch of a Night Lord. I've always liked the fact that they were the most Fear inducing Legion. I figure that every member, especially during and after the Heresy liked nothing more than to outfit themselves in all manners of terrible things. Enjoy.

Dark Gods

The next couple of pieces are pen and inks I'm in the processes of finishing. I'd like to think that I have a very healthy obsession with Warhammer 40K; especially when it comes to the vile, but oh so lovable Lost and the Damned, i.e. Chaos. Nothing says artistic freedom than Traitorous, Super Human Bio-engineered men that just so happen to worship and work for the deities of Hell...

I'm a Chaos Undivided kind of guy, though I tend to lean towards Good ol' Slaanesh and Father Nurgle more than their two other counterparts. Slaan being my favorite Chaotic Deity, Lord of pleasure and excess. I just have always pictured the Cenobites from Clive Barker's Hellbound Heart as being happy followers of Slaan's.






So, for awhile now. probably going on a year, I've been mulling over the thought of doing a very short Comic. I hate to use the phrase "fan fiction" because of its many conitations... The above images are of two Chaos Space Marines of the Former Emperor's Children Legion. I haven't given them names as of yet but the premise behind them is as follows.

I'm an avid reader of the Horus Heresy series put out by GW's Black Library. I've always been into the mythos behind the game more than playing it. There is a Marine by the name of Lucius, that is known some ten thousand years later as Lucius The Eternal. He's a butchering, killing, sadomasochistic all around nice guy. So I started to sketch out who might possibly be able to walk along side this mad man, yet alone maybe even be his protector, maybe even a cabal of trusty body guards that Lucius had personally picked from the Traitor Legion's ranks. Of course Luci would have to put his own mark on them, hence why each and everyone of his "guards" are primarily featureless.




Ok, posting this post has seriously pissed me off. The images won't stay properly where they were supposed to. So, I apologize if it looks like a five year old did this. I'm still very behind the times and I have no clue how to write Html.

Anyways, enjoy what I do have. More to come my Minions.

Been Awhile

The Holidays are always a hectic time, so I haven't posted for a bit, but I have been drawing regardless. So, the next couple of posts will be of sketches I've done or been working on recently.

ART!

So, as promised there is a sighting of Art from me. The next couple of posted images are of a piece I started work on around 2pm today.

While at Illuxcon, I had done a very small sketch - which i should have posted first but will be further down the page - of a small, gremlin in a shroud and wearing a hollowed out skull like a hat. So, naturally I came across a Canvas I hadn't used since Sophomore year and thought "What the Hell?", and commenced with the preliminary. So, hope you enjoy it. I certainly enjoyed doing art again without interruption...

A Beginning, A Change, A New Age.

I started this Blog over a year ago in the hopes that I would post on it everyday. As you can see that never came to fruition - oh sure - there are a TON of excuses I have, reasons I never had time, couldn't find a reason to write or just plain didn't care. Not anymore, that stops here. I've seen in the past two years. Through people I've met and close friends, that I need to pursue my Art. I've spent the good part of five years toiling away, thinking in some vain hope that I'd somehow work off my Debt and THEN somehow do my Art. That isn't reality, and now that I have one less job to crowd my schedule with and burden my psyche, here I am.

I'll be scanning and Posting as fast and best that I can. Returning from Illuxcon for the third year in a row, always leaves me with a radiant amount of post-awesome art-glow, and I feel compelled to do some sketching. So, until we meet again on this interesting thing called the Internet, I bid all my Minions ado and goodnight.
